This post, Time’s Arrow is a collection of my favorite scenes from Star Trek The Original Series (TOS) of the episode Time’s Arrow. I’ve combined the pictures from Time’s Arrow Part One and Two into this one collective post.

Time’s Arrow begins with a mystery that beckons the Enterprise because they found a few odd artifacts but one that stood out above all the rest was Data’s severed head.

Time’s Arrow

If you watch the episode closely you might notice that the episode begins and ends with an emphasis of time depicted by Mark Twain’s pocket watch.

Data has something built into his Positronic brain that allows him to allow to compensate for a time differential and then while he’s in the different time zone (field) he vanishes. I showed the miner 49’er because he’s one of the first victims that we see from the couple that is killing the humans to feed their people.

Below, Guinan tells Picard that his presence is necessary on the away team visit down to the planet. Otherwise, it’s possible that they will have never met.

What really makes this episode very entertaining is the actor portraying Mark Twain (Samuel Clements with an E). One of the best ways that I’ve ever seen him portrayed.

Data takes Guinan into his confidence because he has assumed that she has joined him from the future.

Below are some of things that the crew sees that are in the caves and then they also witness the snake like creature that one of them is wielding like a cane (with a snake head on the top). Then they follow the two aliens into the time vortex that they created.

The remainder of the images below are from Time’s Arrow Part Two and the ones above are from Time’s Arrow Part One. The couple in the image to the far left are the ones that are causing all of the trouble. The Enterprise crew determines that the bodies are being taken during a time that there’s a lot of people of dying and that’s why the other people are taking their bodies so that they’d go unnoticed.

The Enterprise crew doesn’t have any money in their possession so they are trying to convince the Landlord that she should be in the play that they are going to be doing (not!).

Below Picard meets Guinan for which is their first “official” meeting. It’s funny here that Guinan doesn’t recognize Picard and asks him, “Do I know you?”.

Below is the “event” that is responsible for killing Data and severing his head. He has grasped the cane away and when he grabbed it, it was inadvertently activated sending off charges that went right into his system.

Mr. Twain thinks that the crew is up to no good so he takes it upon himself to travel into the vortex (figuring maybe that he could stop them). But along the way he discovers their goodness and helps Picard return to his own time. In the meantime, Picard is busy taking care of Guinan who’s been injured and that’s why he stayed behind (to help out his “too important” friend).

Geordi is trying to figure out what he’s doing wrong and why the head that he reattached to Data’s body isn’t working. He finally discovers that the problem was a tiny metal iron shaving from the cavern. It was used by Captain Picard to send a binary message to Data, so that Data could prevent the activation of destroying the planet (which would have been catastrophic).

Lastly Picard reunites with Guinan now knowing a different way that they originally met and Mark Twain is tempted to keep his pocket watch. But then decides it’s best that it stay right where it was which he symbolizes by patting the watch with his fingers and then there’s a close up at the end on Data’s head to start the mystery all over again.
