In this post, one size image doesn’t fit all, in the world of blogging, there are so many times that you’ll need to insert an image for this or that. Depending on where the image goes, you need to change the size based on the program that you’re using. So this post will help you to determine how to select the right size image. With this post you’ll be able to use the guidelines herein to determine what size should images be for website.

One size image doesn’t fit all
On PinArtwork there are several blog posts that have been posted. I’m in the process right now to add new featured images so that they are clearly visible when you go to PinArtwork’s Blogs (which depicts all of the blog posts for PinArtwork). Nearly every one of the blogs has a featured image. However, if you look closely at the images, you’ll notice a few disparities such as:
- Some of the images are just the right size
- A few images are cropped off to far to the left
- Some are cropped off at the bottom
- The image is cropped off at the top
All in all, this is due to using different size images. As the title of this implies, one size image doesn’t fit all. You need to take into consideration the intent of your picture and where is it going.
For example, in Interact – a program for making quizzes, the suggested size of an image is 900 X 400 pixels.
When in doubt, if you don’t know what size to use, one recommendation is to use 735 X 1100 pixels.
Update: The latest recommendations from Pinterest is that your image should be 1,000 x 1,500 pixels.
Pictures for Board covers on Pinterest are 600 X 600.
The suggested size for your featured images is 1,200 x 628. It doesn’t allow you much room to place with text so I highly suggest that you let the image do the talking for the post. The text has to be placed just right on the image so that it doesn’t get placed too high or too low and thus isn’t visible.
Examples of these various images can easily be located within Canva by selecting the appropriate image and then look at the sample templates available.
Suggested sizes for various things
This list is definitely not all inclusive. But it includes some of the items bloggers may face from time to time for their blog. Other common items like poster sizes can be located in Microsoft Word.
For the most part, Canva’s images are pre-built with certain parameters. However, these sizes can be changed with the use of the Resize button and then you simply select the new size that you want for your image. Viola!
Personally, I have got into the habit of verifying the size of the file before I download it to make sure it’s the right size (with the use of this post, the accuracy of your images should be fitting to the program you’re planning to use).
