10 Tips to monetize your blog
A few days ago without the help of the 30 days blog challenge I wouldn’t have even known on how to get started. Now only, three days into the program and I’ve been able to cross off (figuratively) the first two lines of action required and I need to move on to the last two lines in my search of how to start saying: “Show me the money.”
What I truly like about the image below is that it portrays a roadmap for new bloggers to follow that want to monetize their blog. It’s a true roadmap to monetize your blog.

In the close to two years that I’ve been blogging I haven’t see an image that so easily captures the essence of how to monetize your blog. The image lays out 10 processes to make money for your blog so let’s look at each of the 10 processes leading up to the finale of making money on your blog:
1) Idea – this is where you get the light bulb moment that an idea strikes you and you want to let others know about it.
2) Domain – to be quite honest, the process of domain and hosting your blog are virtually the same to me. I say this because dependent on the domain that you choose you can sometimes get free hosting with the purchase of your domain plan (one domain that I know does this is Bluehost which you can get through Nameboy) for the cost of less than $3.00 per month (while the offer lasts)
3) Hosting your Blog – like I mentioned above, if you get Bluehost through Nameboy, they’ll offer a free domain with hosting for $2.75/month. That’s a pretty good deal and Bluehost is a relatively inexpensive way to learn about blogging to see if you like it or not and would like to continue using it. If you already know that you want to have a blog, you may want to consider a slightly more expensive host such as SiteGround. They offer great customer service and they have three plans to choose from for service.
4) Installing your Blog – Once you’ve purchased your domain and your host your ready to start working on your blog which for the most part, I highly recommend using the WordPress platform. It’s generally a one-click install. Contact your provider if you have any questions so they can walk you through the first few steps or if you’d prefer you can sign up for my free All In One Blogging Course.
5) Customize Blog Design – I wish that when you look at blog themes and you see a theme that you would actually be able to get what you see. But in my experience, that isn’t the way it works. What normally happens is that you get your theme and it has so much dummy text in it that you can’t figure out how to load the demo materials so that your blog “resembles” the picture from the appropriate theme that you’ve selected.
So unfortunately, you will have to tinker with the theme that you’ve selected and put some tender loving care into learning how to use WordPress. It’s gotten quite a lot better over the last couple of years, but it’s still not a what you see is what you get program. And sometimes what you want and what you’re able to achieve don’t match up to one another. So make the best with what you can do and press on.
6) Add pages / posts – There are a few pages that you’ll want to add that are usually obligatory. Things like Contact Me Page, About Me Page, a Blogs page (if you’ve set up your blog as a static display), Terms and Conditions, and Policy Page (to name a few).
7) Optimize for Search Engines (SEO) – When you start blogging you’re probably not going to be too concerned with SEO because you’re going to be wanting to create content for your blog. I would encourage you to learn as much about blogging in your first 30 days and then you could move over to the SEO arena after your 1st month of completing blogging. One of the best ways to learn about blogging is by using the Rank Math SEO plug-in.
For more than a year I used Yoast SEO plug-in. Then I made the switch to Rank Math SEO Pro plug-in and I began to learn so much more about the power of keyword research by using Rank Math. It’s that much of a difference maker. Not only is it a difference maker but you can save an annual $40 per year by using Rank Math over it’s competitor Yoast SEO.

8) Monetize blog – Monetizing your blog is purposely placing ads and/or affiliate links on your blog so that visitors can purchase items that they are interested in because the product/service takes care of a need that they have to solve a particular problem. A very useful plug-in that you’ll want to have so that people will click on your affiliate links is called ThirstyAffiliates. Without the use of this program, visitors are less likely to click on your affiliate links because people want to have trust in the link that they click on before they wander off into who knows where. With the use of ThirstyAffiliates, visitors have a better idea of where they’re going before they even get there.
9) Publish Content – This is something that you’ll continually want to do, including brushing up on those older posts and adding more content, or updating old content to make it current, or adding new images, videos, and/or Pinterest pins. A great way to make Pinterest pins is with Canva Pro. This is a resource that if you’re a blogger you wouldn’t want to be without. So that you can promote your blog and bring free organic traffic to your blog through Pinterest.

10) Drive Traffic –
One way in reality to show me the money is to capitalize on researching keywords. The program of choice that I highly recommend and use on a regular basis is Keysearch. Be sure to use the discount code KSDISC for an extra savings.

Since the name of this post is a visionary image to monetize your blog I wanted to leave you with another visionary image on an entirely different topic, that of improving your Search Engine Optimization. It’s from a site that I ran into a few days ago that has a wealth of information for you to learn nearly anything you’re looking for on their website. The name of their site is LearningSEO and can be found at https://learningseo.io/
I brought up this image because without the use of a good SEO program on your blog, it’s going to be very difficult to monetize your blog. The more traffic that you bring to your blog, the greater the chances are for turning your affiliate click links into profitable sales. Depicted below is another roadmap to monetize your blog that shows the overall SEO picture from LearningSEO (listed above).

Conclusion
So the bottom line is that if you want to monetize your blog, it takes an effort on your part to grow your blog’s traffic with Pinterest, Facebook, and improving your SEO. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it takes an effort and hard work on your part to find something that will provide you with a profit. Best advice I can give you is keep trying.
