In this post, How to find the best keywords for SEO I’m describing in detail a CanIRank review for how to get the most benefit out of CanIRank. “CanIRank is the first SEO software using AI to give you ‘specific’ action recommendations rather than just data. For every recommendation, get detailed DIY instructions or delegate to an SEO consultant with just one click.” I prefer the DIY because it’s free.
PinArtwork – Learn to start your blog! Improving the world by helping Pinterest users to start a blog, grow their blog, monetize it, improve their SEO strategy, and providing general information for Pinterest.
I was on Backlinko and I was reading a post called Keyword Research: The Definitive Guide (2021). One of the items at the tail end of Chapter 4: (Keyword Difficulty) caught my immediate attention that there’s a free keyword tool that’s totally dedicated to keyword difficulty called CanIRank.
There’s a free version of this awesome advanced web ranking app and there’s also premium paid version to determine what are ranking keywords best suited for your site.
Before I start to write any of the recommended posts that CanIRank suggests I wanted to let my readers know about this tremendous program.
I feel that with CanIRank I’ve found SEO goldmine that will actually help suggest content that I should write or blog posts that need to be improved upon to get better ranking and rank faster.
I’ve seldom seen a program that I’ve so quickly been encouraged to buy it fast enough that I can hardly wait to start using it. Brian Dean from Backlinko calls this ranking website tool program “super helpful”! One of the reasons that I like this program so much is that it takes so much guesswork and time out out of doing keyword research and provides you with a whole bunch of suggestions to consider using. This makes how to decide keywords for SEO to use on your website so much easier.
The two keyword tools that I have used prior to this are Ubersuggest and Keysearch and this by far makes it a whole lot easier to find seed keywords.
What are seed keywords?
A seed keyword is a short-tail keyword, usually with one or two words. Like other short-tail keywords, seed keywords tend to have high monthly search volumes and high competition. While short-tail keywords may or may not have modifiers, seed keywords never have modifiers
With the help of this tremendous ranking tracking tool you’ll be able to spend more time working on improving the ranking for keywords instead of doing time-consuming keyword research.
Much like Rank Math’s new SEO feature called Content AI and uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze your post. CanIRank uses a similar feature to look exclusively at your keywords.
It takes quite a while for this AI program to analyze your website. But you have to keep in mind that it’s taking a “detailed” analysis of your website. My analysis took nearly 30 minutes to provide the results and below you’ll be able to see at a glance the number of my posts, pages, comments, and downloads so you have a relative idea on how long it may take for it to analyze your website. Plus or minus depending on how many more or less posts/or pages that you have published.
A few claims that persuaded me to invest my time and money into using it are in the image below:
The best DIY SEO software for small businesses and startups looking to quickly improve Google rankings.
In tiny print above you can see a guarantee statement from CanIRank: “We guarantee that using CanIRank will grow your search engine traffic.” Here’s that guarantee from their website. The one item that stands out is the middle bullet: achieve page 1 rankings for any keyword where you score above 80% and complete CanIRank’s Action Recommendations.
Here are some of the blurbs from the CanIRank website.
“All the Data Professional SEOs Love, In Seconds”
Your time is valuable! Don’t spend it querying 5 different tools and copying results into Excel. CanIRank’s SERP Analysis tool collects hundreds of data points for every keyword, including leading paid SEO tools such as Moz and SEMRush.
CanIRank’s Rank Tracking tool will even dig up your most valuable keyword rankings without you having to manually add them. Best of all, we monitor the results on an ongoing basis and notify you of any changes you need to pay attention to, like rank changes, competitors on the move, or new link opportunities.
CanIRank looks at your website’s secret sauce, it’s an “An X-Ray Machine For Search Engine Results Pages”
The best SEOs invest countless hours analyzing search results, trying to understand why sites rank where they do. CanIRank’s SEO Competitive Analysis software delivers the same data in seconds, so you can see at a glance what’s working and what’s not.
It’s the next best thing to having a search engineer explain the secret sauce in her company’s ranking algorithm. Reports are beautifully presented and easily understood, making them an excellent tool for diagnosing and communicating website needs to clients or senior management before each new campaign.
Actions Guided by Data
With every search engine result page, Google shows us by example what kinds of links it favors, which content they consider most relevant, and how much keyword usage is too much. We just need to know how to listen! CanIRank turns all those data points into specific SEO Tasks, like which related words to include in your content, how to make important words stand out, and where to get links for maximum benefit with minimum risk.
Another principal reason for using CanIRank is to become a better marketer for your website:
Become a Better Marketer
Keeping your skills up to date can be challenging when last week’s SEO best practices are this week’s penalty triggers. Whatever issue your site has, CanIRank connects you to an ever-growing SEO Knowledge Base of appropriate Actions customized according to your skill level, site needs, and the historical effectiveness of each Action.
As your skills develop or your website’s needs change, we’ll (CanIRank) automatically updates your Action Plan so you’ll always know which Actions the software predicts will have the greatest impact.
Prove Your Value
This is where I like how by using CanIRank you don’t have to be an expert at competitive analysis and you can let the program do the hard work for you.
Safe, sustainable SEO is a long game, but small business and startup clients want to see results now. How can you balance the two? First, set expectations by using CanIRank’s SEO Competitive Analysis software to help new clients understand what separates their site from existing rankers. Second, explain how your services will help close that gap (using CanIRank’s Action Plan or your own).
Pluck low-hanging fruit with CanIRank’s Keyword Difficulty tool, then focus on doing great work while CanIRank automatically tracks your progress in dozens of key SEO metrics. Even if it takes a while for rankings to appear, your client remains reassured thanks to CanIRank’s weekly SEO Progress Reports with ranking factor score increases, new rankings, ranking changes, and clear explanations of which SEO tasks were completed and how they will benefit the site.
While the program was loading and scanning my website to improve my rankings I noticed a few beneficial videos that you might want to watch for improving your ranking.
How to find the best keywords for SEO
Let’s have a look at CanIrank for how to find the best keywords for SEO and we’ll start with an Introduction.
Introduction to CanIRank
Beginning CanIRank are 9 buttons located on the left-hand side which are:
- Marketing Performance
- Step 1: Grow my Content
- Step 2: Improve my Rankings
- Step 3: Promote my Content
- Build my Authority
- Grow my Followers and finally
- Website Settings
Your overall Online Marketing Performance Score will be located in the Dashboard below and you’ll see again at the top of the next tab called Marketing Performance.
In addition to the “overall” factor, the other components so that you can improve how your site compares to other competitors is by improving your content, optimization, authority, and social.
I’ve just started using this program for the very first time, but I highly suspect that each and every day you’ll be provided with a list of priority actions (that they call priority tasks) for you to accomplish (see below).
CanIRank suggests that to get started (it may take some time before you find a keyword that falls into the ranking probability of 65% or better) find a keyword that scores a ranking probability of 65% or more.
What do you need to improve to rank better?
To actually improve your ranking, you’ll move to the next button called Marketing Performance But before we go to Marketing Performance let’s talk about a few more things that you can expect to see at the bottom of the Dashboard.
Below your daily priority tasks you’ll have a heading for the Accomplishments of the day (date, 20xx) and a short summary of what you accomplished.
Underneath that there’ll be four more buttons for:
- 1) Grow my Content
- 2) Improve my Rankings
- 3) Build my Authority and
- 4) Grow my Followers
Here’s some screenshots and you may want to keep track of these metrics. I’m not much of a person to keep track of stats, but the important thing when you look at these is look for continuous improvement and unless you write these down somewhere you won’t be able to see if the stats have improved. So we should write them down to keep track of ’em.
- 1) Grow my Content
- 2) Improve my Rankings
- 3) Build my Authority and
- 4) Grow my Followers
Grow my content
Improve my Rankings
Build my Authority and
Grow my Followers
From these four stats, here are the things that you’ll want to keep an eye out for as you grow your marketing performance and start ranking higher.
Note: These images reflect the stats for analyzing only 4 keywords on my website. I’ve added a few more keywords but the report didn’t reflect any changes to adding the additional keywords. I’ve just acquired this program so I’m learning all of it’s nuances.
Here’s how those four keywords ranked respectively and the other keywords that were added:
- SEO (56%)
- Star Trek (58%)
- Fall Décor Ideas (60%) and
- Pinterest (53%)
- Rank Math SEO vs Yoast (62%)
- Star Trek Original Series pin (68%) – my highest rating thus far.
- Search engine optimization (52%)
- How to increase Google ranking (32%)
- The Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO (43%)
- Blogtober 2021 (31%)
Like I mentioned earlier it may take a little while to find that 65% threshold.
Below is a tracking mechanism that I would encourage you to keep track of a few of the important metrics within the four items above:
|Grow my Content:|
|# of keywords ranking in Top 20 on Google||80|
|# of pages indexed by Google||287|
|Improve my rankings|
|Goal at least 1: # of keywords on 1st page of Google|
|Goal at least 3: # of keywords on 2nd page of Google|
|Build my Authority|
|Moz Domain Authority Score|
|(this probably won’t change too much, unless you get a tremendous amount of great backlinks)||9|
|# of unique websites linking to your website||109|
I didn’t add Grow my Followers to the chart because at one time I got too caught up in the number of Pinterest followers, so if that’s your cup of tea don’t fret about Pinterest followers or Social Shares. They’ll come as you add great content to your site.
With the chart above that should allow you to track out for at least four weeks and then you can copy and paste the information to make a 2nd spreadsheet if you to additional date or add more columns in an Excel spreadsheet.
With the free program your only able to have a maximum of 5 keywords. Here’s a cursory snapshot of the pricing, for full details on CanIRank pricing go to the Choose your CanIRank membership plan.
“A Online Marketing Performance score of 27% is typical of a website that is relatively new or has yet to invest much in their online marketing. Now is the time to start! You’ll especially need to focus on improving your Authority and Optimization.”
How does your site compare to the competition? Here your goal is so that the buttons at the top of the box are all green for your website.
The four factors located on the box are:
- Optimization and
The buttons are arranged in ascending order with the following colors (from lowest to highest):
- Darker Yellow
- Light Green
- Medium Green
- Dark Green
In the area of Marketing Performance you’ll be able to see your current and achieved goals under the heading of your Highest Priority Marketing Goals.
Your Highest Priority Marketing Goals
Based upon CanIRank’s analysis of your website and the competition, improving your website in these areas (of Content, Authority, Optimization, and Social) will lead to the biggest positive impact on your website’s traffic and sales.
Below I’ve captured “my” goals, the current goals are listed first and then I’ll provide you with what CanIRank marked as achieved goals.
Current Goals (6) Achieved Goals (10)
Current Goals (6)
The action plan that you can take to achieve your current goals are the recommendations that are provided with the suggestions. Where they recommend which tool to turn to for improvement of the respective goals.
I don’t want to do guess work for something I’m not sure about and I’ve never heard any suggestions regarding to add pages that target each of your secondary keywords. So I’ve submitted a help ticket to my Rank Math buddies for their assistance and I’m guessing it’s the first word that’s under your focus keyword. Here’s what Rank Math had to say about secondary keywords:
“The first keyword added in the focus keyword field is the primary/main keyword. The keywords added after that are the secondary keywords.”
You can refer to these guides for more details:
The goal listed below is going to be hard to achieve (and at first glance appears to be unattainable) but with CanIRank’s help I’m confident I’ll be able to get there by following the recommendations provided.
Achieved Goals (10)
In the area of opportunities I’m not going to provide you with every single example of an opportunity because they’re opportunities that are matched to your website. But I do want to provide you with a couple of examples as to what to expect. The overall list of opportunities for me to capitalize on my website were 32 items (which is why I’m not listing all of them).
These two examples provide a short narrative of what you need to do to improve your page and the expectations of the benefits it will receive by completing the task.
I’m not going to comment on the first opportunity other than to say that I’ll need to bone up on Content SEO and then tackle this post.
However, the next one for my number one post has a great chance for improvement on my Star Trek post with more than 11,000 social shares. It has a good chance for being #1 if I improve the relevancy of the page by doing a few suggestions:
1. Add 3 descriptive internal links
2. Build 11 quality external links
Links from other pages on your own website. They provide an important “tell” to search engines. They say, Hey, look at me! I’m an important page.
What you need to find out is which pages are most relevant, high quality, and authoritative that you should add an internal link for maximum effort.
So how do you know which pages on your site you should add internal links to for maximum effect?
Use the Promote my Content tool‘s Internal Links strategy! Here’s a screenshot of the settings that I used. Pro-Tip: Be sure to set the strategy for Internal Links so it’ll suggest posts to link to.
It will automatically score your site’s pages according to their authority (ie, “link juice”) and relevancy to your target keyword.
Now, go to each of the pages identified and find a way to work in a link to https://pinartwork.com/top-52-star-trek-pins/.
On about half the links, use “star trek original series pins” or a close variation as the link anchor text.
Once you’ve done that, you’ve just added 10 quality, relevant links that will boost both your Page Strength and Page External Relevancy.
Expectations other than a #1 ranking are: 432 additional visitors to my site.
Step 1: Grow my Content
Grow your traffic by adding more content! Higher monthly search volume (# Searches) and advertiser Cost Per Click (CPC) drives more valuable traffic but is also often more competitive.
Get more Content Ideas every time you analyze a new keyword by clicking the Analyze button or by entering a keyword and URL in the form. The program is looking for content ideas that offer the best balance between traffic value and ranking difficulty.
This is where you’ll be evaluating your keywords. Simply type in the keyword for Can I rank for the keyword and then press Can I Rank? Below that is some of the keywords I’ve thus far been able to input, and I’ll gradually be adding 5 more keywords per day until all of my 300+ posts are input.
That’ll take me nearly 2 months’ time to input all of the keywords because of the limit of 5 keywords per day.
One of the things that I’ve just noticed by utilizing this program is that for my post The Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO is that the search results are 0, even though the ranking probability is 0. So I may to revisit the page and update the keyword and re-optimize it for SEO once I’ve made the change
High traffic keywords
Another nice feature within the Grow my Content is the ability to look at keywords that have high traffic associated with them. This is where you can capitalize on improving your ranking to improve those posts, especially if they have a higher-ranking probability.
High value keywords
High Value keywords represent the best combination of high monthly search volume and commercial relevancy. These keywords are likely to drive traffic and lead to sales. Not surprisingly, this also usually makes them amongst the most competitive keywords!
The keyword’s Value is an estimate of how much it would cost each month to buy equivalent traffic through pay per click ads such as Google AdWords.
So, at first glance, I didn’t think that high value keywords was important and I couldn’t have been more wrong because they’re extremely important because not only do they drive traffic but they have the potential to drive sales.
High ROI keywords
The last tab in Grow my Content is High ROI keywords.
High ROI keywords represent the best balance between Keyword Value and Ranking Difficulty. You need to analyze a keyword to get your Ranking Probability before we can calculate ROI. Sorry but to me, even though I’ve been blogging for 17 months, this is as clear as mud. So let’s move on with my review to Step 2: Improve my Rankings.
I’m purposely and methodically looking at each aspect of the features of CanIRank so we can get to know how to use it to grow our blog post’s rankings higher.
Step 2: Improve my Rankings
Track the results of your SEO efforts! Below are some of the keywords your website currently ranks for. Searches is an estimate of the number of times each month users search a keyword on Google. Value shows how much money you’re saving each month by getting those clicks via SEO rather than paid ads.
What I don’t understand in regard to the graphic below is why two items with the exact same keyword “the Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO” are showing up with different rankings. The first one that I analyzed has an optimization rate of 43% and the other one which hasn’t been analyzed yet has a rank of 1 (go figure).
I won’t bore you with a graphic of the optimization analysis of each keyword; however, I do want to leave you with the analysis graphic for the Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO since it “appears” like it does have a rank of 1 (in one place) but a 43% in another.
The suggestion to make this easier to rank for was to get suggestions for related keywords which I knew from the analysis earlier in Step 1 of Grow my Content.
The Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO has a lot of room for improvement as noted by the depiction of the image below:
What I’m contemplating doing for the above post is to change the keyword to simply SEO Roadmap and do some research to see if that has the potential for more traffic.
I’ve already used my daily quota, so I’ll need to look it up later if I wish to use the CanIRank program. My curiosity is getting the better of me, so now I need to compare the Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO to simply SEO Roadmap and I’ll use Ubersuggest or Keysearch to look up the results. I’ve just started using Ubersuggest because I like how it suggest the site domain strength as well as the volume.
· The Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO SD 4 Vol 0 (a flat zero, zip, nada)!
· SEO Roadmap SD 31 Vol 170 (a slight improvement)
In the short time that I changed the primary keyword from The Ultimate Roadmap to Learning SEO to SEO Roadmap and added a few more extra external links here’s how the optimization score improved (see below):
Oops, I got ahead of myself, I changed the keyword and this is still looking at the “old” keyword so hopefully the new keyword (SEO Roadmap) has a better ranking probability which I won’t find out until tomorrow when my quota renews for the day. I’m looking forward to seeing the side by side results which I’ll put after the next two images for comparison.
In addition, there was a tremendous change that you can see by looking at the before and after of how does your site compare to the competition?
Here you can see the noticeable difference between the two:
The six factors that CanIRank looks at are:
1. Page Relevancy
2. Website Relevancy
3. Page Ext Relevancy
4. Site Ext Relevancy
5. Page Strength and
6. Website Strength
You can look at the program to see what each of these mean by clicking on the question mark. Of notable difference the page ext. relevancy increased by 58 and the page strength increased by 22 and the page relevancy turned to a darker shade of green (the direction that you should be aiming to achieve).
Step 3: Promote my Content
Within Promote my content there are four tabs on top of the report: Latest, Best, To Do, and Completed. Here’s the description for each of them:
Latest: Latest Opportunities to promote your content.
Best: Find opportunities to build links, connect with influencers, and share your content with interested customers. Each Opportunity is scored according to relevancy, authority, and how easily actionable the Opportunity is.
To Do: Opportunities to use.
Completed: Links successfully obtained by PinArtwork
The best way that I know of now to use this area because I’ve only been using the program for less than one day is to view the CanIRank video called: How can I safely build links to my new content?
I realize that I didn’t cover this as thoroughly as I did the others, but I’m still learning how to use this program and I’ll be getting to this with the passage of time and it’s going to take some practice to use the techniques outlined in the video.
Three aspects in the video that stood out were using the strategies of:
- · Q & A
- · Bloggers and
- · Related Sites
Build my Authority
How to Build (your website’s) Website Authority
Below are our top Recommendations for building your Website Authority. Each day you complete an Action, we’ll reassess your website’s needs and make additional recommendations.
Suggestions of posts that I should consider writing to improve PinArtwork’s website authority (in Build my Authority). These will vary dependent on your website.
Pro-Tip: In order to attract search engine traffic your website needs to have lots of topical content targeting keywords frequently searched by your potential customers. That’s why using Rank Math SEO is so instrumental to promoting your keywords.
Links are at the very heart of modern search engine technology. At some point in the internet dark ages, a few smart folks figured out that what other people say about your website is even more important than what you say about your website. In other words, the text used in links pointing to a web page can be a great predictor of what that page is about.
Moreover, the more links there are pointing at a page, the more likely it is to be authoritative for those words. For example, even if you create a lovely website and title it “The White House’, you won’t rank in Google because thousands of other websites are already linking to that other white house website using the words “White House”.
This creates a very strong signal to search engines that WhiteHouse.gov, and not your site (or even WhiteHouse.com) deserves to rank #1. While the basic concept is easy to understand, in the years since the role of links has become increasingly complicated.
Now, to rank well you don’t just need links, you need the right kind of links. In this Action, we’ll explain what makes a link “good”, and lay the foundation for growing your Website Strength, Page Strength, and External Relevancy scores.
Site architecture, also called information architecture, refers to the structure and organization of various topics on your website. You can think of site architecture as analogous to those roman numeral-laden outlines we all made in school: primary topics are arranged at the top-level, with various layers of sub-topics organized below in a logical hierarchy. For example, here’s what a good information architecture might look like for a website on the History of the Roman Empire:
History of the Roman Empire
I. THE EARLY ROMAN EMPIRE
A. The Reign of Augustus
B. The Julian Emperors
a) Roman-Parthian War
C. The Flavian Emperors
A logically structured site architecture creates an easy path for both readers and search engine bots to follow through the site. The larger context of each section reinforces the relevancy of individual pages, and it’s clear which pages are most important. Unfortunately, in real life few websites are organized as clearly as a research paper.
The site architecture looks less like a pyramid and more like something designed by Frank Gehry, lacking any consistency or organizational discipline, with pages added haphazardly here and there wherever they might fit.
Instead of grouping content by topic, we may have a single “blog” section where various topics are all jumbled together. Or, the page targeting our most important keyword may be buried in the site hierarchy under something like About Us > Our Services > Financial Services > Credit Cards.
In this Action, we’ll show you how you can improve your Website Relevancy by planning your site architecture with SEO in mind.
People love reading about innovative new products and companies, and a whole ecosystem of bloggers and niche media outlets exists to stoke their curiosity with breathless tales of the latest revolutionary “new new thing”. If your website is newly launched and at least somewhat innovative, you can quickly earn a number of quality links by submitting to Startup News sites.
Grow my Followers
How to Grow PinArtwork’s Social Media Followers: Follow the Recommendations below to strengthen your social media presence and grow your followers. Each day you complete an Action, we’ll reassess your website’s needs and make additional recommendations.
I’ve been blogging for 17 months and this is the 1st time that I’ve heard of KnowEm to claim your social media profiles.
Using KnowEm to claim your social media profiles
Creating a business profile on social media websites can earn your website a link, but more importantly it enables you to connect directly with customers, participating in an ongoing dialogue about your business. Many SEOs feel that social signals like tweets, likes, pins, and +’s represent the next evolution of search ranking signals. Whether or not that occurs, engaging with social media allows you to build traffic and brand awareness which undoubtedly will help your SEO.
The bad news is that there are hundreds of social media websites out there these days, and it seems like the most popular sites are always changing. Creating a profile on each site is a lot of work! In this Action, we’ll show you an easy way to stake your claim in the Social Media universe, thereby future-proofing your SEO strategy against any further rise in the importance of social media factors.
KnowEm.com is a service that allows you to check the availability of your company name at over 500 different social media websites. Search for your company name or a variation.
I’ve just shelled out a few bucks to use this program so personally I’m not going to venture out yet to use KnowEm which looks pretty costly. We’re finally closing in on the end of this post and moving to the last section called Website Settings.
Hardly anything to cover in this area other than it looks like the program has a weekly refresh so I’ll have to look forward to seeing what that will provide next week on the 9th or 10th of December.
On a side note, I did find one place that provided some good recommendations and retraced my steps and was able to find what I wanted to share with you that wasn’t discussed earlier (because I initially couldn’t find it):
Go to improve my rankings. After you’ve analyzed one of your keywords, hopefully you’ll see a long string of suggested keywords that you can use. For example here’s some suggestions that I can add to my SEO Roadmap post:
The orange check-marks are for keywords that you’ve already put into your post.
I thought that I had done an exceptional job of looking up keywords on my own using a combination of Keysearch and Ubersuggest. But this provided me with a long list of terms that I hadn’t even seen before such as:
- What is SEO strategy?
- Best way to learn SEO
- SEO basics for beginners
- Beginner’s Guide to SEO
- Beginner’s Guide to Search Engine Optimization
- SEO action plan
- Understanding SEO
If you liked this post, please copy and paste one of the three text backlinks into one of your existing or upcoming posts as a backlink. Thank You.
“An SEO roadmap is a step-by-step plan for executing your SEO strategy. Think of it like this: the SEO strategy is the “what”and the “why”, whereas the SEO roadmap is the “how”. The two go hand in hand to create a highly actionable set of tasks that have a high likelihood of achieving your SEO goals.” This is truly the most ultimate roadmap that you’ll find to learn SEO with already 300+ incoming links. The Ultimate SEO Roadmap to Learning SEO will aid you in developing your SEO strategy (to develop the “what” and the “why”).
The post, How to find the best keywords for SEO describes in detail how to get the most benefit out of CanIRank. “CanIRank is the first SEO software using AI to give you ‘specific’ action recommendations rather than just data. For every recommendation, get detailed DIY instructions or delegate to an SEO consultant with just one click.” I prefer the DIY because it’s free.
