“2004 was an exceptional year in Vettriano’s career; his best-known painting, The Singing Butler was sold at Sotheby’s for close to £750,000; he was awarded an OBE for Services to the Visual Arts and was the subject of a South Bank Show documentary, entitled “Jack Vettriano: The People’s Painter”.” Another favorite artist is Norman Rockwell, which I did on yesterday’s Day 6 Blogtober post.
He’s best known for one of his paintings called: The Singing Butler.

Vettriano is a self-taught artist in drawing and perspective who manipulates paint in veiled glazes and meaningful shadows. Vettriano’s style has been compared to those of Hopper and Sickert, and his scudded beaches to those of Boudin. In many of his paintings, there is a hidden narrative, in enigmatic compositions, a starting point for dozens of short stories.

I was in the United States Air Force for 24 years. During that time, I was called upon many times to take trips that I didn’t want to take and be apart from my wife for what’s called a Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY).
A TDY involves going somewhere else to perform duties while you’re still assigned to your permanent base (and your wife or husband can remain home to take care of the family).
So my wife surprised me by getting one of his paintings that we affectionally call Welcome Home but the author calls it Back Where you Belong.

I’ve purposely tried to put in clean pictures because some of his paintings are on the darker side or a little risque and I don’t feel comfortable that I don’t want to include them on my website.
Your turn! What’s your favorite Jack Vettriano painting? Please provide a link to the pin if possible.
