Blogtober Day 19 – Mary Ann or Ginger – an age-old television debate?
Last Updated on November 21, 2020 by scottkandh
This Blogtober post features the age-old question from the classic 1960’s Gilligan’s Island Television show: “Mary Ann or Ginger?”
To fans of Gilligan’s Island the debate of Mary Ann or Ginger has been going on for quite some time. And this guy (like most others) picks Mary Ann because she’s the girl next door.
Ginger by far contract is the girl who want fame and glamor in the movie industry.
A lot of television shows have those little songs at the beginning of their show. Aside from Mayberry’s Andy Griffith show, the ballad from Gilligan’s Island is probably one of the most recognizable ballads in TV. Whenever I’m luckily enough to catch an episode I find myself repeating the ballad.
What I didn’t know is that Dawn Wells (who portrayed Mary Ann) beat out Marilyn from the Monsters show and Rachael Welsh for the part. I’m glad they chose Dawn Wells. How do you make the comparison between Mary Ann and Ginger, well Mary Ann was cute and she could cook one heck of a coconut cream pie (Gilligan’s favorite pie). If you can’t tell I loved this show.
I would come home from school and soon as I got home, I’d turn on the television for an episode of Gilligan’s Island. To the best of my knowledge, it was one of the first shows to go into syndication.
