Blogtober Day 18 – Favorite funniest moment that makes me laugh
Last Updated on November 21, 2020 by scottkandh
This Blogtober post features a story about one of my funniest moments. This is a true story from circa 1982/1983 that still makes me laugh all these years later. My Mother and Father-in-law (Mary Ann and Al) were coming to visit my wife (Mary Beth) and I who at the time were living in Germany. We all wanted to do some sightseeing and didn’t waste any time hitting the road for a vacation spot in Garmish, Germany near the Swiss Alps.
Immediately upon arrival because we had a long five or six hour drive we all jumped in the car and took off.
It wasn’t very long into the road trip (maybe 15 to 30 minutes or so) that Al asked me to stop the car. I pulled over and kept thinking to myself why is he asking me to pull to the side of the road, what could be wrong?
I got out of the car on the driver’s side and he was sitting next to me in the passenger seat, then he got out of the car with the road map in hand (he was our navigator). With map in hand, he put it on top of the car, spread it out and so seriously said:
He placed his emphasis on the 2nd syllable. Mary Beth and I just burst out laughing. Mary Ann and Al looked at us like what’s so funny? After we stopped hysterically laughing I told both of them that Ausfahrt in English means exit.
After our trip ended and we returned from our vacation, we shared this story with our German friends and they laughed too.
