In this post from PinArtwork: “8 Steps for how to develop SEO”, one of the best ways to do that is by using an SEO Implementation Plan (outlined below):
- Set goals for SEO
- Analyze current SEO state (focus on foundation blocks)
- Prioritize (based upon current state analysis)
- Perform keyword research
- Identify target keywords (consider search volume; business goals; brand; user roles; purchase phases; etc)
- Implement improvements in foundation blocks
- Add targeted content
- Build awareness, accelerate & refine
By following this strategy, you should be able to drive an increasing amount of ‘targeted’ traffic to your website.

How to develop SEO?
John Fairley, identified the above SEO Implementation Plan steps in his post called Developing an SEO Strategy. However, the steps weren’t elaborated and explained on how to use them. And since he’s already commented that “one of the common hurdles for implementing Search Engine Optimization for your website is determining an effective strategy and an implementation plan” I’m going to expand on these 8 steps so you can learn how to develop SEO.
Set goals for SEO
One of the very first SEO goals that I had set when I started getting serious about SEO is that I didn’t want to have any posts that I had an SEO score of poor. Fortunately, I was able to whittle my list from about 90 poor posts down to a mere 8. The remaining 8 were posts that I needed from one of my sales plug-ins so there wasn’t much need to improve those particular posts.
After you finish using Rank Math SEO to remove the poor or NA posts (ones that haven’t even been scored yet), you can move on the next step.
In this next step, determine what you want your average SEO score to be for your posts. When I first started it was fairly hard to get a score above an 80 or more. But with enough practice it’ll be fairly common to start averaging your posts in the 90s or more. So aim low and then raise your bar once you’ve got the hang of it.
Analyze current SEO state (focus on foundation blocks)
I have no idea what was meant by focus on foundation blocks so I’m going to concentrate on the first part of that as you analyze your SEO’s current status. One of the best ways to do that is with the SEO analysis that’s within Rank Math SEO. Before I began optimizing my posts my current SEO state was at a dismal 26. That’s one of the primary reasons that I didn’t like using Yoast SEO. It was fitting the bill and I wasn’t getting a lot of traffic despite trying to having all of my posts optimized.
That’s because in my opinion, Yoast is more concerned with your grammar to improve than your keywords. Rank Math on the other hand has so many advantages over Yoast that if you make the switch from Yoast SEO or whatever else you’re using to Rank Math it’s going to be one of the best decisions you’ve made once you discover how powerful the program can be where you can actually get a relative idea on how good your posts are fairing for their SEO scores.
Prioritize (based upon current state analysis)
As I mentioned in Step #1: Set goals for SEO. Here’s where you need to prioritize your SEO goals. It could be a multitude of things. You might want to focus on one aspect at a time (like once I solely concentrated on redoing all of my Meta Descriptions).
Or you can shoot for the moon like I did and aim for your highest overall SEO average. I raised mine from a measly 26 up to 85 and then recently it’s been raised to an 86.
Perform keyword research
This is probably one of the hardest things to master. To perform keyword research “effectively” it’s almost mandatory that you need to have a professional keyword research tool like Keysearch or Ubersuggest.
I think that you’ll find the post 3 Steps to get 10000 Visitors in 3 months very helpful in learning how to perform keyword research. My growth to date since I wrote that post is 1,099 and I’m pretty much on target to get 10,000 visitors. I’ll know better when the end of the month rolls around but if I don’t make the mark I’m not going to be discouraged because I’m nearly there.
I wrote the post on the 1st of December (nearly three weeks ago today, Dec. 21st). The traffic has remained relatively close to the traffic on the 1st of December with a few major differences here and there. But overall, I’m happy with the daily results that were extracted from the plug-in Jetpack.

Identify target keywords
(consider search volume; business goals; brand; user roles; purchase phases; etc.)
The technique that I like to use is looking at Ubersuggest and finding keywords that have a low SD and a fair amount of volume traffic. If the keyword has no volume, I tend to stay away from using those keywords.
The other technique that works for me is to write my post and then I evaluate how it can get improved for additional target keywords or questions that should be in the post by using CanIRank my go to AI SEO program.
Implement improvements in foundation blocks
The best suggestion that I can give you for this step is to use the four pillars of SEO which are 1) Technical SEO, 2) On-Page SEO, 3) Off-Page SEO, and 4) Content SEO.

Add targeted content
What does targeted content mean? Targeted content is content that is created for a niche audience to drive a specific response from that group. It reflects an understanding of where people are in their customer journey, and gives what they need at each step.
Here are a couple of posts that discuss targeted content:
