Why do you need a blogging strategy?
One of the first critical steps to monetizing your blog begins with developing a business plan for your blog. You must be mindful that your blog is not your business, it’s merely a tool of your business to help you make money. The business plan is where you should be incorporating your strategies.
I’ve taken many paid online courses and read over 2 dozen books about how to make money for your blog, SEO, or Blogging in general and one common element that they all have in common at the core is the mindset that you need to tell yourself that if you’re running your blog, you need to run it as if it’s your business.
Running your blog as a business is what separates you from the rest of the pack as running your blog as a hobby and they’re not profiting from it. Only when that you take the stance that it’s not personal, it’s business from the You’ve Got Mail movie and take the mantra to heart will you be able to take the courageous effort to step outside of the box and develop products or promote affiliate links to monetize your blog.
There’s no get rich quick scheme, it takes time, the desire to succeed, and some long hours with the realization that you’re into blogging for the long haul no matter how long it takes. And you need to be able to persevere until you find the magic beans for your blog.
What I mean by that is that you need to keep going the distance until you’ve been able to find the perfect product(s) for your niche that makes your blog profitable. Whether its a digital product or an affiliate link. The important element is does it put money into the linings of your pockets.
Many of these blogging tips are for new bloggers because intermediate and advanced bloggers may already have most of these in place. When you put together all the pro blogging tips that I’m going to be providing you with in this post you should have quite the collection of strategies in place to create a successful blog, — more importantly, a “profitable” blog!
What makes a successful blog?
If you’re running your blog and it’s getting traffic that’s a good thing. But to have a successful blog there’s a key element which is asking yourself, do you have a “profitable” blog? If you honestly assess your blog and the answer to this question is no, you’re running your blog but it’s a hobby. Many blogging experts will tell you that to have a successful blog requires that you must have a “profitable” blog. These 50 ways to grow your blog fast will be instrumental if you want to achieve that goal.
By “fully” implementing many of the suggestions in this post, you’re going to be standing head and shoulders above many other bloggers as a successful blog. Let’s get to the list of strategies that you’re getting ready to implement on your blog.
50 Ways for How to Grow your Blog Fast
Actively participate in Facebook Groups to promote your blog
This doesn’t require an exorbitant amount of time on your part. Every now and then go to Facebook Groups (“preferably” within your own niche) and answer questions from other bloggers. This will build your website’s E.A.T. (Expertise, Authority, and Trust). Be mindful of Facebook Group guidelines, some blogs don’t allow self-promotion of any sort.
Add your popular posts to your homepage
Why hide your most important posts? Display your most popular posts on your homepage. What I like to do is to randomly update my most popular posts on a week. I try to keep it so that it’s not out-dated. One of the landmarks that I really look forward to is when one of my posts goes from one threshold to another to break the 1,000 (1K) posts. An easier way to explain what I’m trying to convey is that I like it when a post goes from 1K to 2K, or the next highest.
At the present time 8 out of my 10 popular posts have more than 1K social shares and the remaining two are nearly there at 910 and 762.
Updating the information is relatively easy, all you need to do is to look over into your sidebar that also features your Top xx posts and it only takes a minute or so to get them updated. The goal here is for you to make easy for your users (and Google) to navigate your website.
- Star Trek – The Original Series – 13K
- Top 40 Fall Decor pins for “important” holidays – 8K
- Lassoing the Moon (my 1st viral pin) – 5K
- Star Trek TOS Phenomenal Collage Pins by Michael Schuh – 4K

Be a Problem Solver
Being a problem solver is the component that you need as a blogger so that people looking for answers to their problem will come to your blog in the first place.
Be the Go-to Expert for your niche
One of the most recognizable traits that we know that Google does have in their Google algorithm is that it recognizes posts with E.A.T.. Therefore, when you get focused on your niche and learn as much about it as you can you bring your website to the forefront and people will provide backlinks to your site. For example, during the week of Apr 15 – 21, 2022 I gained 428 backlinks (from my latest weekly update).

Build your Blog’s value by posting often
If you have a really good solid SEO foundation, it’s not that imperative that you post on a frequent basis. However, without it, it’s suggested to post on a regular basis. I’m not going to be dictating how often you need to post.

I am referring you this blog post called: How Often Should You Blog? The Answer You Were Looking For” and one of the questions within that post addresses “Is There an Ideal Blog Post Frequency?”
“This is a question that digital marketers have debated for years. While some swear by posting daily, there’s actually a confirmed sweet spot when it comes to posting frequency. Most experts agree that blogging two to four times per week is the best way to see increased traction from your content.
This equates to somewhere around eleven to sixteen posts a month, depending on how set you are on the actual times per week you post new content … In some competitive niches, it is important to blog more often, such as four to six times a week
RockContent.com
I took a look at my own blog examining it’s recent activity just to see where I stand (pictured below) and

I’ve participated in two Blogtober Challenges in October 2020 and October 2021. So I can show you the results that daily blogging will give you versus posting on a less frequent basis.
The results were: 1) Oct 2020, 1,641 Page Views, 2) Oct 2021, 11,237 Page Views, & 3) April 2022, 1,477 Page Views. Thereby if you look merely at the stats from these three campaigns of two Blogtober Challenges and one non-Blogtober challenge it’s evident that posting daily can bring you the most traffic, but it’s quite the challenge to post on a consistent daily basis. If you take on a daily challenge of posting I would highly encourage you to automatically schedule your posts and write them ahead of time. Then go back to promote your blog post with Pinterest pins the next month. Then if you’re up to it you could repeat the challenge every other month.

Personally, I’m not hung up on chasing pageviews because I know how much it takes out of your tank to post on a daily basis. I do enjoy doing it on a yearly basis and I look forward to October to partake in Blogtober but to say that I would do this more frequently just to bring in more traffic without a rise in conversions isn’t being productive for your business. On the other hand if daily posts brings you sales conversions then by all means, proceed with daily posts. That’s a no-brainer.
And the benefits to promote your blog’s content or work on your SEO instead of writing new posts on a daily basis to me is a better way to grow the business. Chasing pageviews is a vanity metric, yeah it’s nice to know but quality over content should be a prevailing goal that I think you should strive to achieve.
Create an SEO Keyword Map to promote your best content
Creating an SEO keyword map is a way to provide an audit of your blog’s content. With the SEO Keyword Map at your disposal it takes the guesswork out of what you should be promoting to the items that are more likely to get you results because they’ve already proven their worth for one reason or another in your keyword map.
Summary of How to create a Keyword Map for SEO: The purpose of this post is to explain how to do a site audit for your keywords by learning how to create a keyword map for SEO. Then you’ll be able to see what posts can be improved to improve your Google ranking and get a higher rank. With the keyword map you’ll be able to conduct an SEO audit on your own website and you’ll be able to learn how to conduct a site audit. This post will provide you with the necessary headings to make a keyword mapping tool. In the long run, you’ll be creating awesome content for your Blog
Create awesome content for your Blog
This is the one place where you can truly have your blog stand out by having awesome content on your blog. I highly suggest that you invest a little of your money into Canva Pro so that you have a vast array of images that you can use to create that awesome content.
Create Lead Magnets for your Blog
A lead magnet is that you’re giving something away for free in exchange for people to give you their e-mail address and is usually accompanied by a request for your first name. For example, below is my lead magnet, 7 Steps Checklist to make your 1st Tripwire that’s useful to help monetize your blog in creating a Tripwire. For another example, at the bottom of every post, I have an opportunity for you to get my Ultimate Roadmap SEO checklist.
Define your blog’s goals
This is where you’ll want to put your blog’s goals into your Business plan. It’s preferable that your business has a written business plan. By putting your business plan into writing increases the likelihood of you achieving your blog’s goals. Need help in learning how to write goals? Visit my post called Setting goals and objectives with SMARTER goals. It adds two extra steps to the SMART formula.
Diversify the lengths of your posts – Blogtober
Write some posts that are lengthy, some that are in the middle, and a small few can be at the small end of the spectrum. People like it when you arrange a plethora of content. Your lengthy articles can be 1,000 – 2,500 words. The middle ones from 600 to 1,000 words. And don’t have too many that are less than 600. During Blogtober would be a good time that you could use the blog posts that are less than 600 words because you might be strapped for time during that duration.

Don’t turn off Comments
One time I turned off my comments or I should say that I set the reset the settings so that you had to sign in to leave a comment and that was a bad decision. The good thing is that it got rid of the spam comments. However, the bad thing is that I wasn’t getting any comments, and every now and then you’ll get one good comment that isn’t necessarily a spam comment.
Ensure that your blog is mobile friendly
This is something that I would love for my blog to be more mobile friendly. I just read a post today for a post that I’m working with on with another blogger that suggested running Google Page Speed Insights to check your page speed and the post also contained some recommendations to fix your page speed that are so far over my head I was drowning because it’s way too much code.
The easiest way that I can suggest to you to make sure your blog is mobile friendly is read the fine print of premium themes that mention they are mobile friendly. FYI, the reason I shared my stats with you is that my desktop is really good at 95, but the mobile settings is a dismal 75. Someday I’ll learn how to master Core Web Vitals or hire a developer to speed up my blog.
Ensure that your homepage has a clear CTA (Call to Action)
A call to action is just that. It’s a plea that you want your visitors to take a certain action. When your visitor gets down to the bottom of your post, that’s usually the best place to leave a call to action and guide them to what you want them to do.
Install a plug-in to help improve your headlines
Your headlines is one of the most important elements of your SEO. I highly recommend the plug-in Google Monster Insights that comes with a free program (plug-in) called Headline Analyzer. It looks at the headline that you suggested and you can optimize your headline so that it will attract more clicks.
Install a plug-in to remove your spam comments
I highly suggest using Aksimet Anti-Spam which easily weeds out good comments from bad comments. “Is it spam if someone has read your headline and decided to write a short, barely relevant comment just to get the backlink? Probably, so you’ll have to be extra diligent when moderating your comments.” – WinningWP.com.
The bad thing about comments is that people like to get backlinks and often times will write a post that has nothing to do with your blog post. Unless the comment is relevant to the post, majority of the time you’re going to be deleting the comment, especially if Aksimet has already flagged it as spam from attempts they’ve tried on other websites elsewhere.
Install a plug-in to track your Blog’s analytics
Two great plug-ins to track your analytics are Google Analytics and Jetpack. They are not mandatory plug-ins that you need to install; however, I would say that they are both very good recommended plug-ins. The thing about plug-ins is unless you have a really good caching program like WPRocket some plug-ins can really slow down your website. Both of these plug-ins can slow your page speed unless you’ve purchased WPRocket. I don’t know the science behind WPRocket but it works and it’s must have tool if you want to bring bloggers to your website.
Install a search bar on your blog
If you’re using WordPress to the best of my knowledge Search: Search Bar is a built-in Widget that you can easily add a search bar to your sidebar.
Install Social Sharing Plug-in
The social sharing plug-in that I highly recommend is Social Warfare. With it your able to look at your posts and you and your visitors can see how many times something has been shared on Social Media. The cost for a single site license is $29.00/year. With this version you have control of where you want to place the social shares (top or bottom of your posts and/or pages.
Install Social Subscribe Buttons
Social subscribe buttons are relatively close to social sharing described above. Where they differ is they’re the buttons that people can click on to share on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, or Linked In based on the parameters that you’ve set up. See the buttons in the image above to see what they look like.
Install the Jetpack plug-in to add your popular posts in your sidebar
I love all of the stuff that this free plug-in has to offer on your blog. In addition to adding popular posts in your sidebar and setting the limit for how many you want to display. You can also add the popular posts to the footer so that visitors have one last chance to look at your popular posts before they leave.
Interact with your comments
You don’t need to respond to spam comments and most of the time spammers won’t leave legitimate e-mails anyway. I have one blogger who repeatedly leaves spam comments, uses the same user name and changes up each of the comments with a different e-mail name. The important thing is that if it’s a valid comment to leave a reply to let your visitors know that your listening. By valid, what I mean is does the comment even pertain to the post.
Learn Keyword Research by installing Rank Math SEO plug-in
The Rank Math SEO plug-in is an awesome plug-in because you start learning how to optimize your posts through the use of keywords. The secret to growing your blog lies with the keywords and how they’re used in your posts.

Learn SEO optimization by installing Rank Math SEO plug-in
As I mentioned above Rank Math is fantastic. You’ll notice a big difference if you start using Rank Math. The other thing that I like about Rank Math is that it costs a lot less per year to it’s closest competitor, Yoast SEO. Using Rank Math you can save $40/yr over Yoast.
Monetize your affiliate links
Add ThirstyAffiliate links to your affiliate links to fully monetize your blog. Dependent on which book you’ve read this topic varies from not having too many affiliate links to the other extreme that you should have a lot of opportunities (for your affiliate links) to increase the likelihood of your clicks getting converted. If you want people to click on your links and buy your affiliate products this plug-in is a must-have tool for your blog. The one-time cost for a single-site owner is $49.00.
100% No-Risk Money Back Guarantee!
You are completely protected by their 100% No-Risk Guarantee. If you don’t like ThirstyAffiliates over the next 14 days, they’ll happily refund 100% of your money. No questions asked.
Pinterest – Create a Business Pinterest account for your Blog
There are so many things that you can track with a Business Pinterest account that you’re unable to do with a Personal Pinterest account. It’s free so what are you waiting on.
Pinterest – Create a Personal Pinterest account for your Blog
Not necessary if you already have a Business account. The Business account is the higher tier of the two accounts.
Pinterest – Ensure that you claim your website
Using this feature visitors can go straight to your blog from within Pinterest.
Promote other Bloggers
People like getting recognized. Especially bloggers because you might earning them backlinks. That’s why it’s so highly recommended to have at least one external link in every post. Preferably to an authoritative link.
Promote your Blog in comments and e-mails
Some blogs will mark your comment as spam if you include your URL. To promote your blog and not get flagged as spam use this technique from Ella and use this format somewhere within your comment (being sure to leave off the .com at the end) Scott | PinArtwork for comments and your full URL within https://PinArtwork.com in e-mails.
Publish a Guest Post Policy
This is not a mandatory page that you need to have. It’s optional. But by having a guest post policy when people have questions about if you accept guest posts, you can polite respond and refer them to your guest post policy (in case they have any additional questions).
Setup a Blogs Page
This is especially needed if your website is setup as a static account. When you publish a blog post, the blog post will automatically (including your featured image, if you have one) get inserted into the blogs page. If you have any important blog posts/pages you can set is as sticky so that it always sticks to the top of your blog posts page. For example, I like to have my #1 social shares post for Star Trek at the top of my blog page.
Setup a Contact Me Page
This is very beneficial for people that will periodically want to get a hold of you (in lieu of leaving a comment).
Setup an About Me Page
Don’t overlook this extremely important page. People will often go to your About Me page to see what your about. This is highly recommended page that you don’t want to do without.
Setup an opt-in in your blog’s sidebar
If you have a sidebar make use of that precious space by putting your opt-in into the sidebar.
Setup an opt-in on your homepage
Your opt-in for the most part can go anywhere that you’d like. The prevalent places that it usually shows are on the homepage located at the bottom of the homepage. And often times bloggers like to use a popup to display their opt-in. Getting e-mail subscribers is a critical key to monetizing your blog and the way to get e-mail subscribers is by your lead magnet and/or your opt-in.
Setup an RSS feed for your Blog
How to set up an RSS feed is something that you only need to setup one time and your done with it. But it’s definitely worth the time so that people can see your blog posts without physically coming to your blog. They can come to your blog when they see something that interests them through the RSS feed.
If you’d like to set up an RSS feed on your blog, see item #8 in Set up an RSS Feed for your blog.
Setup Blogging Categories
Using blogging categories is an easy way to help visitors navigate your website. Try to consolidate your posts so that they fall into five to seven categories.
Show your recent posts in your sidebar
You can use widgets to show your recent posts in your sidebar. And then you can tailor it down to how many you’d like people to see. It all depends on how much room that you have already taken up in the sidebar. Not too much there, expand the recent posts to 10. A lot there, cut back to 5 posts.
Spell out your Mission Statement
Your mission statement belongs in two places:
- 1) predominately displayed at the top of your fold and
- 2) within your Blog’s written Business Plan.
Stay within your lane! Don’t go outside of your niche.
Sarah from XOSarah.com wrote a post called: “Why you need to stay in your lane if you really want your blog to grow” which does a great job of explaining why it’s important to make this happen. When Blogtober rolls around this year (2022), I’m going to take a new approach and take this advice to heart and instead of putting my Blogtober posts on my website as I’ve done in the past, I’m going to publish them on another website that I have.

I personally don’t like going out of the comfort zone because I’ve got two past instances of a successful Blogtober campaign in 2020 and 2021. However, bloggers need to be adaptable and what once worked in the past may not work in the future.
I highlighted the 1st two sentences from her post because of the importance that when you change lanes it confuses your audience, and this can keep people from following you on Pinterest or using you as a resource. One of the most important elements a blogger has at their disposal is when people naturally provide backlinks and copy and paste one of your links into their website.
The good news is that even though I’ll be publishing Blogtober in a different website, I’ll be able to post the Pinterest pins to my PinArtwork SEO Blogger Pinterest board to help grow the Pinterest account. I’m like a lot of you that I don’t like change; however, PinArtwork SEO is my business and one of my goals is to surpass getting more than 1,000 e-mail subscribers. Therefore, I don’t want to jeopardize that I could be losing potential e-mail subscribers by not following my own advice. So, to remind ourselves when Blogtober 2022 rolls around, repeat to ourselves: “It’s not personal, it’s business” and we’ll have Tom Hanks echoing those words as positive reinforcement to stay within our lanes.
“Changing lanes confuses your audience, it keeps them from checking in on a regular basis and from recommending you as a resource. People don’t want to share blogging tips from someone who also posts about gardening and baking (if that’s you, sorry, it’s true. #pickalane).
They want blogging tips from someone who is thinking about and writing about blogging 24/7. They want someone coming at the topic from every side and an expert on everything in the box so they’re also able to think outside of it.”
XOSarah.com

Take advantage of “automatically scheduling” your posts
If your consistently posting than this is not an issue. If you ever decide to partake in a Blogtober challenge I would highly encourage this technique to schedule your post at a prescribed date and time.
You can always go back later and promote your post with Pinterest pins.
Target your “Ideal” audience / customer
This is important to monetize your website and when you’re writing your blog posts it’s highly suggested that you get a clear vision of your ideal audience / customer. Make them as real as possible. Many bloggers even suggest going so far as to personify your ideal customer with a made-up name and personality traits.
Toot your own horn with a Canva Media Kit Template.
It’s a way to show other people what your blog does and its stats. Not actually required until the point that when your blog starts making a profit. Below are two “sample” Canva Media Kit Templates. You can easily make templates like these from Canva Pro and provide the information that’s particular to your website for the stats that you’d like to promote. I’ve created a Fiverr account where I provide SEO services so I’ll be making my own media kit template to promote my SEO services.
I’m purposely not providing my Canva Media Kit template for several reasons: #1 number is I haven’t even started it yet, so I want to ensure that I use good images. I really like the layout of the 2nd template, so that’s the one that I’ll be tailoring to suit PinArtwork SEO Fiverr services. Except for that I can promise you it won’t have beautiful pictures of me. I actually don’t like using my own portrait but that seems to be the norm so I’ll be taking some selfies for the new template.

Update your old posts
This technique will improve your SEO as well as bring more traffic to your blog.
Use a CMS like WordPress to make blogging easier for yourself
Using WordPress is easy because you don’t have to know a lot about coding and it takes care of the coding behind the scenes for you.
Use a consistent writing style
People get into that they like to see your writing style in a certain way (based on your past posts). So don’t deviate far from what you’ve done before. Be consistent.
Use a professional (premium) theme
To make your blog stand out, it’s important to use a professional theme that will offer you so many advantages. They can cost in the neighborhood of $59 or more – usually a one-time deal. When you first start blogging it’s going to be a process of trial and error until you find the theme that you like. In my first few weeks of blogging I went through at least 12 different themes before I found one that I really liked. So be patient and try some out for free until you find a style that you really like.
Use your navigation bar (aka menu bar) for site navigation
When new bloggers are just getting started the navigation bar is the one element that doesn’t get a lot of attention for whatever reason. Use that space well because your goal should be to help out your visitors (and Google) so that they can easily navigate their way around your website. You do this by effectively using your menu bar, categories, and well-placed images leading to your posts (to drive your sales funnel).
Write guest posts on other blogs
Writing guest posts will improve traffic to your blog and increase your domain authority score. Especially if you’re luckily enough to get a blog that has a high DA score.
Write your Business Plan
If you’re serious about your blog and want to monetize it. This should be one of your number one priorities. Because your blog is an asset of your business and your business plan is the objectives and strategies that you need to take in order to achieve your goals.
